Race BeCause You Can
I race because I love it. I strive to do better each time and have a personal best in whatever the event is. Every once in a while, someone or something comes along and brings me back to the reality of "the bigger picture." Today that someone is Rachel A. Bonner, an amazing inspiration. I was supposed to race a different triathlon today (June 24th), but through a series of occurrences, I ended up in Pleasanton at a small first year triathlon. After meeting Rachel at packet pick-up the day before, I told myself, "Wow, I had better step up. If a teenager is doing what Rachel is doing for a debilitating disease, what am I doing?" I decided to go out and have fun and not worry about all the little things leading up to a race that cause you to go faster or slower. Speed really doesn't matter. I raced in honor of Rachel and my second cousin in England, who has been battling Crohn's for most of his life. He was an amazing runner and had to give it up because he got so sick from this disease. Today it was about just doing it for those who can't. I've created this page after the race to raise funds and see how much more I can contribute to the Hope for Crohn's charity. Please consider a donation, large or small. Any amount is appreciated. Thank you!

"When Rachel was told she would be on biologic or chemotheraphy drugs for the rest of her life, I joined Rachel and supported her decision to start Hope For Crohn's® to raise awareness of Crohn's and to help find a cure.

Our organization needed to find a better solution to save cost in order to raise funds for Crohn's research and outreach and education programs. Hence, the formation of our Athletes For Crohn's Program. We hope you will join us in our quest as you embark on the challenge of your endurance sport of your choice. Be it run/walk, bike, swim or multisport, we support your interest. We thank you for your support in helping us achieve our mission."
